Syracuse’s Week 3 win at Purdue cemented its second straight 3-0 start for the first time since 1959-60. Three SU players earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week awards following the 35-20 victory: quarterback Garrett Schrader, running back LeQuint Allen Jr. and left guard Christopher Bleich
Shrader finished with 195 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns. Shrader broke his career single-game rushing record, surpassing the 178 yards he ran for against Wake Forest on Oct. 9, 2021. He was five rushing yards away from breaking Eric Dungey’s program record of 200 rushing yards. Shrader also went 14-for-28 passing, totaling 184 yards.
“We asked (Shrader) to use his legs in this game,” head coach Dino Babers said after the game. “This is a very important game in our run and we need to do the things that we need to do to win.”
Allen Jr. tallied 17 carries for 80 yards and his fifth touchdown of the season. In the wake of Oronde Gadsden II announcing that he was out for the rest of the season with a Lisfranc injury, Allen Jr. finished with 62 receiving yards on a team-leading six receptions. Fifty-eight of his receiving yards came after the catch.
Bleich earned his first-ever ACC Player of the Week honor, helping a unit that was without two of its starting linemen. Syracuse finished its win against the Boilermakers with 271 rushing yards and 455 yards of total offense. Through his 79 snaps, Bleich had six knockdown blocks and did not allow a sack.
