No. 20 Syracuse (9-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast) kicker Andre Szmyt has won the Vlade Award, given annually to college football’s most accurate kicker.
The redshirt freshman who “came out of nowhere” leads the FBS with 28 field goals on the season and ranks second in the nation with a program-record 141 points.
Szmyt was named All-ACC first team and a midseason All-American. He has posted a school-record three field goals beyond 50 yards. He also has made all 57 of his point-after attempts this season.
The award, named for former Ohio State kicker Vlade Janakievski, will be presented Feb. 9 in Columbus, Ohio.
