Syracuse wins weekend series with 7-5 victory over Georgia Tech
Syracuse (17-9, 3-3 Atlantic Coast) defeated Georgia Tech (9-18, 3-6), 7-5, in eight innings on Sunday to close out the weekend series. The Orange finished 2-1 on the weekend.
Left fielder Bryce Holmgren opened the scoring for the Orange with an RBI single in the first inning. Sydney O’Hara followed up with a solo shot to right field to tie the game at two in the top of the third inning.
Syracuse tallied three runs over the next two innings with RBIs from Alicia Hansen, Holmgren and Faith Cain. But the lead didn’t last.
Alexa Romero pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs. O’Hara came in to relieve Romero and earned the win. The senior pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out seven batters.
Holmgren knocked home the winning runs for the Orange with a single up the middle in the 8th to seal the extra innings victory.
Syracuse hosts its first home series this weekend with its first game Friday against Louisville at 1 p.m.
